@aprilmm: yeah, it was not open for very long. Probably a conspiracy by the Columbus Consolidates government and the Police Department to keep teens from having any fun. I remember many of my peers remarking that they were going to move out of Columbus after graduation. And to have any fun, one had to go to Atlanta.
It was not good to be a teen in 1980s Columbus, GA.
I was only 7 but I remember everyone talking about going to the bradley theater. I couldn't wait till I was a little older so that I could go...but when I got to be that age it was no longer open.
Do you notice how different the dancing would be today?? Everything is so clean!

I remember that slogan. "The music starts at Art's."
And then I would get childish with my funny comment: "Unless you eat beans. Then the music starts with farts."

It's funny that at 3:57 Chuck mentions that cruising "is against the law". It still is.
Columbus, Georgia. Making teens' lives miserable (including mine at that time) since 1985.

OMG! I was 17 when this was aired! On WTVM. That's Chuck Leonard hosting, back when he had hair!
I noticed two things: 1) lots of the "cool" kids (of which I was not one...I was the school weirdo/nerd.geek), and 2) only Caucasian kids.
Otherwise, GREAT post! Brings back memories!
