In commemmoration of what would have been Keith's 54th birthday on July 1, 2008, I am posting a 60-minute long radio tribute to Keith Whitley which was made available to country radio stations to be broadcast on May 9, 2004, the 15th anniversary of Keith's death. The radio show was hosted by legendary Nashville radio personality Lee Arnold and was produced by Westwood One. This is Part 7, the finale of the program. In this final installment, Keith discusses his state of mind, his state of being, and his battle with alcoholism. Lee also discusses what Keith meant to him, and the program finally ends with the video for Keith's 3rd straight 1 hit, the song that was on the charts the day he died, the classic "I'm No Stranger to the Rain."

  • Was This Hospitalization He Was Talking About Due To His Disease Or Something Else?

  • Some say it was exhaustion, some say he was in there to dry out. I think it was a little of both.

  • Sharon, thank you so much for taking the time to post all this information on Keith. He was such a gifted talented man that gave his all. He told us he was tired didn't he.

  • Yeah, Virginia, he sure did. I think he spread himself out pretty thinly at this point. He was caught in a whirlwind where he was in high demand, he was bent on gaining acceptance from his contemporaries, and he had bills to pay and a new baby. He lived in a very modest brick ranch house, nothing fancy at all. But he deserved better for his dedication to his music and preserving the integrity of country music as it used to be.

  • I really enjoy the video's that you post

  • Thank you, Phyllis, that's so sweet. Keith gave his best to me and his fans, he fought so hard while he was alive for acceptance from his peers. He can't fight for that acceptance anymore, so it's up to us to give him our best and fight for him.
