Good job it managed to go over board as I'm pretty sure all missiles self destruct after a certain time if they don't engage the target. Sea Cat certainly self destructs so I assume Sea Dart does too.

@obese1konobe The WH won't have armed at this stage, but that's not the danger. I don't know specifics about Seadart but I do know it's not IM. If the WH hadn't have ditched overboard there's every chance the propellant could have led to detonation and a bad day.

I was on board HMS Gloucester in 1994 when this happened. We were in basic operational sea training after being in refit in Scotland. I was not involved in the firing or the fire fighting but I remember the skipper having a fit when I went to see him a few hours later. Also you should be aware that section of the upper deck is above where the ordnance is stored and the shit really hit the fan when we came into port with an inquiry

Wow looked like entire SR sections blew themselves off the WH and core.
Lucky that did not just go bang, at what point does the WH arm itself ?

Holy shit! Weapons techs really messed up. What ship is this?
I want to know why a big red missle appeared on the launcher *immediately* after the misfire.

@daemn42 The 'big red missile' is an inert handling round. The system automatically reloads after firing and this is placed next in the magazine. Sensitive parts are different to prevent any guesswork on dimensions.
