They may not have been the first band to do this, but they are the first band to my knowledge that broke down barriers of race and gender, and for that, I respect them greatly plus Sly's genius can't be questioned - the music is just so damn expressive!

Makes me feel better about myself and others! Sly & his band were something to see in concert! (He was 45 min. late & WIRED UP when he hit the stage) There were 2 dudes in the front in wheelchairs & when the crowd started to shove them, Sly stopped in the middle of a jam; said he would quit the concert if they didn't "step off these brothers".Needless to say, the crowd did f& Sly came back 3 times onstage after so many Zippo lighters were burning, foot stomping, chanting. Magical night!

Different roots of the same tree, in my view. Sly came up through the church in Denton TX and San Fran; Allen, of course, was native to "N'awlin's". Both were active musicians in their teens.

Man, I don't believe that for a second. The cool stuff sure might not sell anymore, but it's still most certainly out there, if you dig deep enough for it.

Yes indeed Sly is a legend, consider Sly and Hendrix were contemporaries Sly was more commercial and Hendrix was more deep. something about those 60`s and 70`s. Today there is no creativity everything is so manufactured and computerized. Not just music but in every aspect of life.

How ironic that jaded rock stars could cut through all the decadence and nihilism in less than four minutes: "I love you for who you are, not the one you feel you need to be."
