Election Results - 2008

The results indicate that the people have judiciously cast their vote to meet the goals of the Provincial Councils.
The Alliance polled 264,218 votes securing 13 seats in Ratnapura. The UNP gained 10 seats polling 191,996 votes. The JVP managed to get only one seat polling 9703 votes.
In Kegalle, the Alliance received 212,571 votes and secured 10 seats, while the UNP won seven seats polling 154,325 votes. The JVP polled 9,365 votes and got only one seat.
Accordingly, the Freedom Alliance has 25 seats in the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, the UNP 17 and the JVP only two.
In Polonnarwa, the Alliance polled 107,910 votes securing six seats. The UNP won four seats, polling 63,265 votes. The JVP did not win any seat. It polled only 7,381 votes, suffering a severe defeat.
The Alliance polled 199,547 votes winning 12 seats in Anuradhapura. The UNP got eight seats with 142,019 votes. The JVP has only one seat with 19,357 votes.
Accordingly the Freedom Alliance has 20 seats in the North Central Province, the UNP 12 and the JVP only 1.
