Update: GVSU students protest shooting of Derek Copp, hold Why was our friend shot signs - " A friend of Derek Copp, Karah Bradshaw, 19, said she has visited Derek at the hospital, and hes up and talking. She said the bullet hit him in the upper chest, but the bullet traveled downward and did damage. She said there should not have been a drug raid of Copps apartment"

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Valley State University student shot by an Ottawa County deputy told his parents he lifted his right arm to cover his eyes from a bright flashlight when the shot was fired.

He told them he didnt know it was a police officer shining the light.

He never even had a chance to even see who was coming at him, with a bright flashlight in his face, Sheryl Copp, the mother of Derek Copp, told 24 Hour News 8. He had no clue. He heard someone knock on his door, and he had no clue.

The bullet entered the right side of Copps upper chest, broke ribs, ruptured his right lung and went through his liver, his parents said. It remained lodged in his lower back, nearly protruding through his skin, they said.

Doctors, they said, were planning to remove the bullet Friday.

It's nothing new. In my hometown, just a tiny little town with basicly no crime issues whatsoever, the town's narcotics officer friggin lives to arrest kids smoking pot. He's had to stop arresting people because cases against him for his arrests have backed up so far sometimes. He's also a known wifebeater and former cokehead with a Domestic Violence CONVICTION on his record. Far as I know, that means he can never carry a gun, but he does anyways. Scares the hell out of me.

My friend is a cop lol and we both smoke weed every day when he is off duty he is cool he rarely makes arrests he really only gives out tickets he says and he lets people go if they are smoking weed and admit it. Awesome (cough)

We need to end the "war on drugs" because it's really a war on people. Mostly unarmed people.

I'd say I hope the dude is ok and the cop got fired except that they will just get some else to shoot people for no reason.
