  • wow hi Deb it's Barry Drimmer, I have only watched 2 of your videos and they are great, since I am painting a bit I will watch more, it is great to see you, you look lovely, be well, rbdrimmer@aol.com

  • @rbdrimmer Barry, what a blast from the past! Glad to hear that you are painting....that's very cool! Let me know when you post a video of your work, eh? I would love to see what you are creating.

  • Wou, I like it, very interesting painting!!!!!

So, did you do varnishing, bc of using lot of pencils or crayons, not sure!!!???

  • This painting was acrylics and permanent markers on canvas, so no need to varnish.

  • @debcoart

Thanks, I still dont know what to varnish or what not>>>:))))

I like to varnish, bc painting look much better after!!!

  • The best thing to do is to test your paints, markers pens and pencils to see if the wet varnish would remove them.

The general rule is that varnishes/fixatives can be applied to anything as a final coat. But in the case of acrylics, it is most often not needed. Mixed medias will probably need a coating of something. Watercolors....sprays only. Normally, they will placed under glass to protect them, so a finish isn't always required.

Every artist is going to have a different theory.

  • @HanaPainting just to add to what the poster of the vid said..

I'd be careful with Varnish, many times I've done a painting and used pencils or pens, and when I put on the varnish it smudges and smears it all over the place, and ruins your painting. So...I'd always test on a small area, or put some of the materials on a bit of paper and paint varnish on...just as a test. A lot of the time, you don't need varnish anyway. :)

  • I think Robin left you a comment on Mixed Media Workshops... check it out!

  • I'm not normally a fan of abstract art but I do love this. it reminds me of zentangles. I like the way your paintings emerge as you go along.

  • You thought about it all day and it came out so GREAT.
