The Electric Car Conversion continues!
Following on from my first video a few days earlier, this is where we finally find a way to get the Mitsubishi "Deadia" into the garage.

Once in the garage the dismantling begins.
We start by removing all the old bits & pieces not needed for an Electric Car.
A few examples of now obsolete items I enjoyed removing were:
Gas tank
Exhaust system
Fuel lines
Petrol filler spout & lines
Used engine oil
Oil filter
Petrol Filter
Carburetor
Radiator & lots of brown water
And of course, The Planet Killer (the engine)!

I have appeased the knuckle Gods many times over the last few days. I have made many a sacrifice of skin and blood to them, as it is written in the knuckle bible.

You'll notice I got a big suprise when looking at the gearbox after removing the engine... It wasn't a good suprise either!

Enjoy the story as it unfolds everyone.

  • Petrol prices are high right now but are they that bad ? interesting anyway

  • It's a really good comment and had me thinking for ages. I'm not sure if NZ gas prices really warrant the conversion although it makes sense on many other levels. For example, with New Zealand's clean & green image it's just what the doctor ordered.

  • Good question. I'll be using a 12V vacuum pump connected to the brake master cylinder. These are fairly readily available from any EV converter and occasionally found on Ebay too. I should really order one I guess...

  • It's probably a speed hole. It makes the car go faster.

    :)

  • Sure is, I've seen two converted miatas on the net over the last few years. They'd make a great conversion - nice and light and fun too.

  • Thanks for the praise! I have to fit my head through the door somehow now...

  • Thick, black, and delicious. Just the way I like em.

  • The gearbox probably broke because of the engine seizing up. It may have sent a devastating shock through the whole drive line.
