Pressure ulcers otherwise known as bed sores cause a great amount of distress. Pressure ulcers formerly known as bed sores are normally quite preventable. Products such as alternating air mattresses are used to help alleviate pressure ulcers but must be used as an aid to care not as a curative in their own right. TVNs or tissue viability nurses and OTs or occupational therapists will help those at risk of pressure ulcers with a combination of care including appropriate nutrition. This video is designed to help those in a non clinical back ground have an understanding of pressure ulcers and alternating air mattresses. Pressure ulcers are also called decubitus and airflow mattresses sometimes referred to as dynamic mattresses or low air loss mattresses. Please see the rest of the Squirrel Medical videos on this subject.

  • Ok so in summary, those wound happen when people can't move? Like a cuadraplegic? So is just lack of excersise or movement? Si i guess that if somebody begins feeling pain or actually feeling the skin to crack, just moving around more will stop it?

  • Thanks for the video, it's just that I was expecting to see an alternating air mattress in action. But yeah, good overview.
