THE exploits of Ian Holloway and his tangerine army have been immortalised in verse.
Blackpool singer Nick Foti has re-worked the famous Oliver's Army hit by Elvis Costello in honour of the resort's Wembley heroes, their flamboyant manger and the brightly-clad travelling fans.

The tune has already attracted more than 2,000 hits after it was posted on YouTube.

Now Nick and his band The Kasuals plan to add the song to their playlist for the summer. The group, which specialises in '60s hits, will also perform renditions of Glad All Over which is blasted out at Bloomfield Road whenever the Seasiders score.

Nick said: "I was listening to the match and my grandaughter is an avid Blackpool fan and had gone to Wembley, when the lyrics just came to me.
"I used to be in Freddie and the Dreamers, and Freddie played for a few celebrity elevens at Bloomfield Road.

"He died a few years ago but I feel he had a hand in it.
"It would be great if it got adopted on the terraces."

Fellow band member John Clarkson said: "We were playing a gig so couldn't get to Wembley for the match but we feel this song really captures the spirit of the occasion.

"Nick has a small studio and we recorded the song there. It has had about 2,000 hits in three days on You Tube. Oliver's Army is a song in our set so it was just a case of Nick re-writing the words.

"It gets Elvis Costello's tune back in vogue, it's good for us and good for Blackpool. We're also going to put Glad All Over into our act and hopefully it will get a few people down. Maybe it'll get taken up by the fans on the terraces!"

Lines include "The Tangerines they went to Wembley, fought the fight and beat the Welsh assembly."

Fans already chant "Holloway's Tangerine Army" at games. The Wembley play-off final saw around 37,000 supporters wearing the club's famous colours descend on the national stadium to witness the Seasiders' 3-2 victory over Cardiff.

The Kasuals, made up of musicians from Blackpool and Leyland, will be playing every night during the summer from 9pm at The Queens Hotel on the Prom.
