I think it's based on Peak Cavern (the Devil's Arse), Castleton. Took my kids a few years ago and then showed my eldest this sketch, he couldn't believe the resemblance. Imagine this character in a spoof series of Coast or something like that, priceless!

love it, one of my favourite television series (and favourite characters) ever along with blackadder. to be fair, live isn't their best format. watching this particular sketch on DVD is sublime (no laugh track is a relief), the acting and timing are just perfect - don't know whether to laugh or sob! @judgenutmeg1977 - spot on mate.

@MadcapMan They were all fucking brilliant, and to be fair, it was an amazing series. (Series one and two, at least.) Even if you take away the comedy, you've still got some of the best character acting the world has ever witnessed. Seriously.

clearly he's not a fully formed character, but i think he's great. I love the league but series 3 wasnt up ther after previous two. Only adore 1, 2, and xmas special.
