On the morning of April 26, 1993, the space shuttle Columbia lifted off from Launch Complex 39-A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on its 14th flight into space. The mission, STS-55, included the Spacelab D-2 module, in which a number of experiments were conducted. Among the experiments were the SAREX and SAFEX amateur radio broadcasts, in-flight collection of orbiter waste water, and in-flight intravenous fluid replacement.
Columbia carried a seven-person crew and covered over 4.1 million miles during STS-55. During the flight, the Shuttle Transportation System logged its 365th day of orbital operations, and Columbia logged its 100th day of orbital operations.
Recorded off the air from NASA TV on April 26, 1993, the video covers Columbia from T-minus 30 seconds (the point at which the on-board computers take control of the launch) to just after SRB separation.
Blabber, blabber, blabber..... Why does mister blabbermouth have to spoil the video as if this is a dufus gridiron football game? Howard Cosell was AWFUL, and this is WORSE.

@centurion180ad, it's the man's job to comment on the launch. Without him, people wouldn't understand some of what's going on during the ascent.

No kidding! A lot of people born on April 26! Hope you all had happy birthdays this year and that your birthdays in the future will be nothing less than spectacular!

Do you also have the aborted launch of STS-55 (March 22, 1993)?

No, I'm afraid I don't have that on tape. But it seems like I do have another aborted launch--a night shot, if I'm right, of the shuttle Columbia, when it was to deliver the Chandra X-Ray Observatory to orbit. I'll have to dig through my tapes and see if I still have it.

You mean one from 1999 which is aborted at T-7 just before the ignition of the three main engines?
OentOent 2 years ago
I believe that's the one...If the engines had fired, it would've set the launch back several days.
