It was Sgt Lockett, who claimed there is no such thing as a door zone. 13:50 on I dont know if I am supposed to laugh, or be angry...The guys did not get the memo, again. Sorry if I am being negative, but if I am, then I dont have words for what Ramirez is. I feel sorry for anybody who is involved in an accident and has to deal with him. Unless of course you happen to be a criminal caught in the act...then its your lucky day.
The police behavior mentioned below, ignoring violent motorist attacking cyclists, took place a few blocks from the sobriety checkpoint on Imperial Hwy that same evening. Checkpoints, to remove unsafe drivers from the road. I think it is very unlikely that any of the cars they impounded were from motorists who intentionally hit the most vulnerable of all road users. I have said enough, but will be uploading what I have in more appropriate place soon enough.
Inglewood Police. Officer Nazir, nice enough guy, his watch commanders rude and unhelpful. Dibernardo misinforms the public putting all users of the roadway in danger. She claims cyclists have to ride all the way to the right. Period. I plan on reading it to her since she said she "didnt have time to argue about it" before hanging up on me. VC 21202 subject to 21656. Local police choose to misinform the public rather then help keep them safe.
On 7-11-11, en route to LAPD on 108th st, Inglewood PD stopped me for being in the middle of the curb lane, even though there was no traffic, just him and I. He insisted I had to be in the gutter, and a bicycle is not allowed to occupy a lane, period. No matter I was as far to the right as "practicable". As I already knew, he really just said that so he could question me about my clean record, destination etc. In his defense, Officer Nazir has a polite way about his illegal stops.
In several thousand miles per year each year for the last 5 or 6 years all in traffic, I had only been bothered or harassed by Hawthorne PD. My accident mentioned below is the first time I have been seriously bothered by a motorist. There have been a few times where the milk shake flies by and hits the ground or trash hits me, but those are rare. Now I understand why these attitudes persist. Every witness learned this behavior is approved by the city and police.
Fun Fact. I was riding in the door zone, (no such thing)before the motorist started threatening me with her vehicle and gesturing for me to get the f off the road. She honked and put the right side of her car into the curb lane scaring me into the middle 2 lane, where she honked again then hit me just hard enough to taco my rear wheel and make me fall. No sorry, no are you ok...(no warning from STD) just "you were in my space, your spot is over there". LAPD let her know she was correct.
Dooring, 22517 vc. Yesterday I was told "there is no such thing as a door zone" by a LAPD Sgt STD. Cant read his writing, "Sgt Cocheyl"? When I get the correct spelling and serial # I will update here. On Saturday, 07-09-11, I was threatened and rear ended on my bicycle by an irate motorist, who thought I should be on the sidewalk. 911. Officer Ramirez, S #36911 responded code 3 and agreed.
He claimed that because I was in lane 2, I was at fault. No reply from Sgt Krumer. Thanks LAPD.
