A tribute to Susan Hayward, the Oscar winning star of "I'll Cry Tommorow" (1955).
Born Edythe Marriner on June 30, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came to Hollywood in the mid-1930s hoping to win the role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind" but her screentest failed to wow the panel. Despite that setback, Susan landed her first film role as Isobel Rivers in "Beau Geste" (1939).
In the 1940s, she worked with with 20th Century Fox and Universal. She also lended her voice for shows with the Lux Radio Theatre. In her career, she played aspiring actresses, alchoholics, and self sacrificing mothers. In 1955, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role of Barbara Graham in "I'll Cry Tommorow".
