  • Other fish in the tank, like 'tetras' would allow him to vent his anger. A large enough tank would allow the tetra's to get away. After mine chase other fish off, they then come back to their fry and display to each other for a few minutes, to celebrate the defensive victory I guess. looks beautiful. I had about 50 males, Introduced a wild caught female and let her pick. Then seperated both. It was your video that inspired me to breed them. Thank you so much for posting it. Beautiful fish.

  • @MonkeyBoyApeMan

Wow thank you for the compliment! Best of luck to you and keep me posted on your progress! Great thought about the tetras.

  • This was a while ago. The male ended up pummelling the female for some reason one day while I was working and her babies finished her off. It was a sad day for me. I have traded to the LFS all but 4, the male and three babies which are now approximately 1-2 inches long. the male has re-mated with one of the fry and I have eggs as we speak. I will keep you posted on their progress!

  • Can u make a vid on how big the babies are now... and how can u tell a male and female apart?? please reply. i have 2 jewel fish just like yours and i think they might mate.. their doing that friendly squable thing lol . thanks!

  • those colors are stunning! wow!

  • i have 3 red jewels in my 30 gallon tank, and they're colors are not like yours.. you think soon when they become mature they're colors will turn out to be like yours??

and btw your fish look NICE

  • @narnyslip the best way to breed is to put the cuple alone in a Tank with no other fish

  • Do the jewel cichlids have to be alone in the tank together meaning no other fish or will they still breed in a comunity tank with other cichlids African around??

  • @MrZeman420 Yes. What I have found from my research online is that it is most often suggested to keep the fry with the parents for about a week. After that you should remove them to a separate tank of their own. In my experience even peaceful fish like Corydoras Cats and Pleco sucker-mouth cats will eat the fry. It is crucial that the fry have a tank by themselves. Good luck! :-)

  • will the fry live if i seperate them from there parents so they dont get eatten by the other fish in my tank?

  • Stunning jewels. I have been considering a pair for a 30 gallon long tank (36 inch) but after reading comments like this where he killed the female I am not sure a 30 gallon is big enough for a pair.

  • Try not to imbreed too much. They will start developing deformities because of the blood line being so close. Father+Daughter are ok I guess. But stuff like Father(1st Gen) mates with daughter(2nd Gen) and have a 3rd Gen of fry. Then a male and female from 3rd Gen mate and make (4th Gen), then the female of that fry (4th Gen) mates back to the original male(1st Gen) isnt very good for the blood line.

  • i've had so many firemouths because they always end up dead. i've noticed red devils and texas cichlids to be very aggressive
