Marc 23rd, 2009 - After filming an intense funnel cloud near Arkansas City, KS our chase team moved to continue to follow this tornado warned cell. It continued to produce very strong inflow (50kts) and picked up large amounts of dust. It went on to drop another wall cloud that was rotating (looks like a funnel!) before losing its strength. We then decided to dive south to the storm in Kingfisher, OK which went tornado warned as soon as we began to move in on it. We dove south just missing a 75 dBz hail core and were treated to a classic "mothership" mesocyclone. The storm lost its intensity (and hence lightning) just after it began to drop another wall cloud, and thus since we could not see the storm, we decided to return home (the cell weakened just after this). Overall, a great chase day, we intercepted both tornado warned supercells of the day! Video Credit: Nick Engerer, Owen Shieh and Chip Redmond
