  • I am in love with Asian Pacific coffees.. i love that dirty, earthy taste :p

Have you tried the Yukon Blend from Starbucks? ;)

  • @ImTheCanadianEh I believe so, don't know if I did an official review though - will have to check.

  • Hi Jason. No to all your questions, though I'm always tempted to grown my own coffee. Not sure if the climate where I live would be suitable, though. I like the small packaging because you're only opening what you're going to use. Speaking of which, what is the shelf life for unopened packaged coffee beans? Thanks!

  • @JennyBMoon usually the roaster will have the shelf life posted on their bag. In theory, since it protects the coffee against it's 2 of it's biggest enemies: 1)oxygen and 2)sun light, it should be good for a few months, inside the package. Though, like to enjoy it within 1-4 weeks Tops.

  • @renix Thanks! I'll check it out :)

  • @JennyBMoon GimmeCoffee(dot)com has 20% off their relationship coffee's (ie they know the growers) right now with code OCT1120E if you buy two packages. Some good Central's available. Shipping makes it more expensive, but it's a good place to start with high end coffee.

  • @renix Thanks so much for the advice. I'm going to be more particular with where I buy my beans from for now on. I know there was something suspect about packaging that lacked the roast date. I like my coffee very fresh :)

  • @JennyBMoon Yes and No. Buying old coffee and brewing it that week does nothing to make it fresher. If there is no roast date you are buying the wrong coffee. Buy from a roaster, which most likely means ordering online unless you're lucky and live near a good roaster. Most people do not.

  • @renix Thanks! My problem is I never see the roast dates on the packaging. I guess a safe bet would be to buy what you can brew in a week.

  • @CoffeeCupNews Thanks Jason. I find those expiration dates questionable, though. I'd be more comfortable seeing the date when the beans were roasted and/or packaged. I've seen some shelf life dates go to over a year which doesn't seem right to me. Coffee can't possibly stay that fresh even if well packaged.

  • @JennyBMoon Actually it does matter if it was opened, but if it wasn't 10 days. If it was and it was stored outside in the sunlight on your back patio open air...then it's probably not good in a short while.

  • @JennyBMoon Peak taste is less than or equal to 10 days from roast for drip coffee. Doesn't matter if the bag was opened.

  • @CoffeeCupNews Yeah and since I was already spending so much on the Silvia I thought I might a well go with a quality stepless grinder that would last me maybe a lifetime and If I would decide to by "better" machine I would not have to upgrade the grinder.

I also have many times heard people talk about being torn between two settings on their Rocky grinder and Baratza Vario is stepped grinder and does so so job in coarse grinding and I already have a good grinder for coarse grinding.

  • @klarinetta that is quite the investment.
