The state of the McCain campaign is drawing fire from its own ostensible allies. At the head of the line of Republicans looking to be the first to flick dirt on McCain's grave is Bill Kristol, who says in today's New York Times, that if "the race continues over the next three weeks to be a conventional one, McCain is doomed." Since that's coming from a guy who, through his own bad advice, has contributed mightily to the grave McCain is measuring, it makes sense that he be given the first shovel of dirt.

But didn't Kristol get the message? Today, the key line of John McCain's rebooted stump speech is directed at his rival, Barack Obama, and it goes a little something like, "We have him right where we want him." That was the plan, all along, you see! Be down double digits in the polls, possessed of the necessity of campaigning in West Virginia, and in need of tempering your supporters' passions because they have suddenly veered wildly in the direction of psychosis. I love it when a plan comes together, even if that plan is only indicative of the fact that McCain's moved to the "denial" stage of grief. Brace yourself, because anger and depression are still to come!

Amid this turmoil, McCain's attempts to relaunch his campaign have encountered a new obstacle: his fellow Republicans, who, like Kristol, are prepping themselves for an old-fashioned circular firing squad. Over the weekend, the New York Times noted that party leaders "were worried Mr. McCain was heading for defeat unless he brought stability to his presidential candidacy and settled on a clear message" for his campaign. And in today's edition of The Hill, a chorus of disapproval weighs in on McCain's muffed punt of the Paulson bailout package.

  • We need leaders that are smarter than us, damn it!!

Palin will be as horrible as the current failed President. McCain will die from his face cancer in the next year, but he didn't have the judgement to choose a VP who was ready to lead? Why not Tom Ridge? Or Christine Todd Whitman if he needed the angry Hillary vote? Palin is a disaster waiting to happen. Just as sure as Bush proved to be.

    Vote with your secular BRAINS!

    Vote Obama/Biden 2008!!!

  • This proves the ignorance of all Republicans across America. "McCain's campaign is stupid, pathetic, impulsive and I don't agree with McCain but i'm still voting for him". Is that country first? No it isn't so all you McCain supporters need to stop yelling "country first" because you guys are putting your political party first.

  • Republicans are seriously DUMB AS HELL! First, they wait till the elections is months away and its obvious Mccain will not win, to bad mouth him and criticize him. Even though they are right, its still pathetic to wait till then. Secondly(most damaging), Mccain is who YOU retards designated as your BEST man to run against Obama. You jackasses picked him as the BEST to run. So, either your process of picking is FUBAR'D or your a bunch of retarded assholes jumping ship. Either way you all are sad!

  • @dlwke2 Listen to the news you duncebucket. According to an ABC Poll, Obama's approval rating is 58%. You are just racist. You are a jealous bitch who can't get a handout from Bush. Bush was the dictator. Governmnet healthcare?? Obama has never proposed that. Obama has spent less than half of what Bush spent in his first 2 years. You're just mad because you can't steal from the poor under Obama.

    You are one of these:

    1: A racist

    2: A rich person

    3: A traitor to America

    You are at best 2.

  • Actually, Obama's approval is dismal and around 40%. His support base is race-obsessed blacks (who support him only because he's black) and the deranged liberal morons who don't know any better. Barack Hussein Obama the 1-term president is nothing but a terrorist-coddling, govt healthcare takeover-forcing, big tax and spending, affirmative action-loving, ground zero mosque-supporting empty suit liberal who loves going around the world apologizing for our country! In 2012 it's bye-bye, Barack!

  • @dlwke2 Unfortunately for you, his approval rating is near 60%

  • @ROLtheWolf I can't believe you Liberals really believe that Obama will beat McCain. Sure McCain is following some ridiculous ideas, but I believe you're wrong sir, in his choice of V.C. Sarah Palin. Palin is getting stronger day by day.

  • Now that Obama has turned out to be a complete joke and has plummeted in the polls faster than any president in recent history, what are the clueless Obama worshippers going to do now? I bet they feel awfully embarrassed of their little "hope and change" bumper stickers now. Thank goodness the country is soundly rejecting the gimmick Barack Obama, the left wing Democrat loons in Congress and their attempt at government takeover of health care.

  • who controls the budget and spending? That's congress. Whether u like it or not, the Clinton/republican congress "team" made the 90s great.

Clinton wanted to spend more, Gingrich said no. Clinton gave us the largest capital gains tax cut in history, Newt said okay.

Whether u like it or not, it was the congress that balanced the budget, passed welfare reform, and preasured Clinton to lower taxes which helped business.

Over all Clinton was a good pres, but wake up, congress helped.

  • Newt Gingrich's head is massive. And I do mean that literally as well as metaphorically. So, when Clinton cheats he should resign. When good old Newt cheats, well uhhh.... did I mention that when Clinton cheats he should resign. So I guess only dems have to resign because of sex scandals. How interesting. Its almost as if he has a completely different set of standards for other people. Isn't it blatantly obvious that the right doesn't believe in any of thier phony family values?

  • that makes white christians look so bad
