Just because it warns you about damp stone, doesn't mean the water would have poured in. You could quite safely have dug out those three squares..

After watching these first eight videos, I feel brave enough to start playing. I'd like to thank you for making my dwarf fortress playing possible.

Here's the trick to not walling your dorfs in. Set up another wall behind the one you want, and suspend construction on it (q -> s). The mason will not stand on the false wall while building the real wall and he'll not get stuck on the wrong side.

what you said about obisian?that scared the shit out of me,because that means that my whole fortress is located in a volcano,because all the stone ive found has been obsidian xD

@l0rf Craftsmans workshops are your friend. By Setting stone crafts to auto you can stack them in bins, and even sell them for money to merchants. :D
