New Venice is one of the most gorgeous destinations in virtual reality. It exists on the virtual world of Blue Mars. Photographer Eddi Haskell did this machinima with two free programs, Videopad Video Editor and Debut Video Capture by NCH Software. The music selected is by Angels of Venice and is called Voyage of the Sea Witch.

This video is choppy in places; it really is a first rendition that I wanted to put up, a second version with better breaks and blends is planned to replace it once I have time to do this. Parts 2 and 3 of the series focusing on New Venice will be produced over the next several weeks, the raw footage exists.

  • Where are all the people? The players? The users?

  • @WietseVanAerde Blue Mars is empty. I see few people there. The virtual world has essentially suspended development in favor of a lightweight client for pad devices, and there were not to many people there to begin with.

  • Still a ghost town. Sorry I wasted time setting up an account. :/

  • @eddihaskell I was walking around for a few days in few cities and only saw one user there. Majority of the shops looked deserted as well. I would like to see places like Blue Mars to grow, but it has happened few times before - some new place is thought better than SL and then it just got abandoned and it is no more.

I wouldn't draw foregone conclusions, but no matter what happens, at least you have this beautiful footage saved.

They also need more payment options than just Google Checkout.

  • @eddihaskell I was hoping to expand content creation activities from Second Life to Blue Mars. Sales have been good, specially around the holidays, but it could be better.

What I miss most with Blue Mars is easy access to Activities. Find out where the most users are located.

Blue Mars Lite has this, but... what content is there to create (and sell) walking around on a Google Streetview?
