probably not. If you look at 14kts its only about 50% gold so they probably get away with melting in an additive instead, and then billing YOU for an extra 14kt gold link ;)

The metal being melted into the hollow link is a "pallion" of nine carat gold solder, cut from a sheet of same. (There is a yellow colour cast to the vid, which is a bit confusing, sorry!). The UK standard of 9ct is only 38% pure, so allows for much alloying, and hence the solder is 'proof' at 9ct, unlike 18ct white gold solder, which is allowed tolerances, down to 15ct? for hallmarking.
The solder is alloyed to melt lower than standard 9ct alloy.
