II.Les fêtes (Souvenirs de Puigcerdà).
The picture is of de Séverac (seated) and the great Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was responsible for many premier performances of works by Ravel, Debussy, Satie, de Falla, de Séverac and Isaac Albéniz.
@klizmun1 Severac first pianopiece is of 1900 chant de la terre. Ravel wrote menuet antique in 1895 and Debussy had by 1891 already written a few dozen songs with typical Debussy pianostyle. So I think Severac was a follower. Not the source of impressionism.

@dmitribron certainly, you are right. This particular work was composed between 1904 and 1911. He also composed piano collection En Languedoc in 1900 - 1903. What I was saying (clumsily) was that he was the pioneer alongside Debussy and Ravel but was completely overshadowed by their fame although probably deserved better recognition. But it is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

@klizmun1 this work was finished in 1911 and published in 1919. Ravel's jeux d'eau was written in 1901.

Well, he certainly was a pioneer and was later robbed by Debussy and Ravel and their fame. 20th century wasn't a century for aristocrats)) This is French music in all its purity.

Thank you for posting this. What I love about this music is that it really does come across as by a Frenchman from the south. It is French with a touch of Spanish in it, quite different from Ravel, Debussy and Poulenc.
