The Brick Mill Cemetery appears to be the largest "Community" all African American cemetery of its type within the county it is located. The location of the cemetery is in southeastern North Carolina, on private property and not accessable to non-family members due to security and privacy issues. There are not less then 500 graves and oral histories that have already been conducted establish its origins to be ca.1895.
Jack is a local historian and is conducting this preservation project, along with three similar ones, researching and developing a publication of the final outcome of the project.
Jack is not "Not-For-Profit," and he is conducting the entire project at his own expense, time, and energy. He recognizes the historical but, more importantly, the heritage of the Brick Mill Cemetery within former slaves, military veterans and other individuals who contributed to the growth of the local communties.
Jack is hopeful that viewers of this and future videos will appreciate the effort required to complete such a monumental task as preserving these valued Hallow Grounds.
