Barnsley FC versus Manchester City League Cup 1981

Barnsley FC's memorable League Cup victory of 1981 at Oakwell. The Reds had already knocked out first division teams Brighton and Swansea City in the previous rounds.

The atmosphere in Oakwell was electric and it was standing room only back then apart from the upper tier of the old West Stand.

A fantastic night for the Barnsley supporters and if you were there you will enjoy seeing this action again.

There's a striking similarity too to Ayloytt's winner and the one which saw the Reds beat Chelsea in the FA cup last year.

Great video and a great game, atmosphere was tremendous that night.

Slight criticism though, the message at the end saying "no legends great team"

Mick McCarthy, Joe Joyce, Phil Chambers (the last two gave fantastic service to the club)

And not to mention the one and only Ronnie Glavin, he'll be forever a hero

Glad you enjoyed it Jwood36. Slight criticism taken on board. I suppose in Barnsley terms we can regard Macca and Ronnie in those terms but it was a great team. I feel that individually they were better than the 96 promotion players and certainly a few had played at the top level already and a few went on to do so, whereas the 96 side most never stayed in the top flight with other clubs.
