James Kalm continues his trek through the myriad studios, galleries, and open air venues that make up this years BOS weekend. An intriguing find are the paintings of Alexandra Pacula. Mixing exuberant brush work with strangely distorted snapshots Pacula produces a twisted version of Photorealism, that exercises abstract gesturalism within the conceptual framework of photographic vision.
This is very good work. It doesn't ring my chimes, but I respect it. People don't know how to use oil paint any more. It is becoming a lost art. Alexandra Pacula deserves much credit for her technique and the aplomb exhibited here. Go girl!
