Sort of a long episode, as we decided to include Peter's old short film. It's about four minutes, and it's not really a true short film so much that it documents a random night out. And stay tuned for our editorial rambling at the end.

If you're getting started in filmmaking, one of the best ways to practice is to carry a point-and-shoot camera everywhere you go. And as Peter repeatedly states, writing is important, too. Be sure to spend an equal amount of time with your old pencil and paper.

  • Hate to be a bother, but I have noticed what I can only refer to as "flash images" in a number of videos I have viewed in the educational stuff (check out section around 4:30, image is of a pair of Canon cameras) I don't know if you intended this, or youtube screwed the upload somehow.

  • The "flash images" are used because YouTube uses the center point of a video as a thumbnail. You'll probably notice that the flash images are right at the midpoint of a video. It's intentional.

  • great

Where are you gys put up?

  • We're from Buena Park, CA. South of L.A.

  • would you agree with me that the intro to little miss sunshine had great cinimatography. and due to that start i wanted to watch the whole of the film (its also just a great film in my view)

  • Heh, LMS is part of the opening shots project (supposedly having one of the greatest opening shots in recent films). So yes, I'd agree with you.

  • THank you guys for the great info and exmaples!!

i just started making videos myself.

  • i have 20 taopes in total and 18 of them ae full of stuff i dont want to tape over LOL

  • I'm an idiot. I actually did not know that.

  • guy in green got film presence other guy no good get rid of, green shirt guy wold b good in some quirky Dovsteisky Crime and punishment type thng

  • i have 8 or 9 tapes full of point and shoots, alot of them are unwatched

  • And sound design is most definitely of utmost importance. I think we're all going in bizarre directions with this. I want good cinematography no less than I want good acting or good directing, etc... But sound and screenwriting are perhaps the two most overlooked crafts, versus the more obvious [and popular] elements in a movie.
