Point-of-view target shooting with the Ruger 10/22, .22 LR, and open sights. Distances up to 50 yards. Five "action" segments filmed safely in my backyard. This is the first of what will likely be a series, RUN N GUN with the Ruger 10/22. I have other scenarios in mind.

IT WAS COLD....19 degrees, but not much of a breeze. I was wearing three layers of clothing. Using painter's tape, the Sony HDR camcorder was mounted to the left side of the rifle, next to the rear site. My left hand was holding the rifle behind the magazine, in order not to cover your view. Somewhat unnatural for shooting, but it works in this caliber. I would not try this in my backyard with an AR15 due to close nature of the targets, among other safety issues with blasting .223 at this rate.

Ammo was Remington 36 grain plated hollow point, 1280 fps; and I used the 25 round Butler Creek magazine. This is the STEEL LIPPED magazine. There is another Butler Creek mag marketed as "hot lips", which has red polymer feed lips. My understanding is that the steel lipped model is more reliable. I have never owned the "hot lips" version, my opinion is based on suggestions from other shooters and website reviews.

Targets are 3/8" thick, 500 Brinell steel, and safe to shoot at these distances. I purchased these from Mike Gibson Targets. The circles used in the video are 12" in diameter and weigh approximately 12 pounds. They often will not drop unless the hit is high, especially at 40 to 50 yards, as was the case in some of these segments.

  • what magazine are you using???

  • @shadeshiest22

Butler Creek, steel lips model, 25 rounds.

  • Where did you get that mag? And do you know if it would fit all the Ruger 10/22 versions? Wanna get me a 22cal and this model seems like a good choice :-)

  • @UnknownGuitarist1993

My local dealer in Nashville keeps them in stock, but you can buy online. I've also seen them at Bass Pro....Butler Creek Steel Lips model, 25 rds. I don't know why it wouldn't fit, since it replaces the 10 rd box mag.

  • how does your lawnmower deal with all the .22 shells? serious question. im planning on doing this out on my relative's farm this spring, and will eventually have to mow over planned shooting positions.

  • @captaincadavor

No problem with .22's as they are usually under the blade, but it HATES shotgun shells. I forget to pick those up, and it sounds like I'm mowing freaking rocks.

That would have been epic. And likely the end of my long-term affiliation with State Farm Insurance.

  • gonna buy a 10/22 tomorrow :)

  • cool backyard combat training center...

  • @MyPenisBig97 you say you own a gun, yet you call a magazine a "clip."

yeah that is really believable. go back to listening to rap music and playing call of duty

  • @tnoutdoors9 i have the exact same gun and clip

  • Hey fella if you are intrested in steel silhouette targets that are the animal shapes used by the NRA, I know of a website that is legitimate, just message me if intrested.

  • i want your backyard

  • @I3attleFieldHero I know, awful close to the house and vehicles haha, hate to see a sneeze cost a windshield haha.

  • @Coxyman1897 By the way, I am not saying the bulk ammo is total crap. There have been days where I have no problems. I just prefer to spend the extra couple of dollars to buy the ammo that is sized exactly the same as the next one. I have put a couple of .22 bulk together, and noticed a slight change in size. Happy shooting!

  • @Coxyman1897 I have heard good things about the Ruger 10/22 in regards to jams. The only occurrence of jamming is usually failure to feed as a result of the cheap bulk ammo. I shoot an old JC Higgins .22, and I'd say every 30 rounds you get that 1 that won't feed. You go to cycle a round into the chamber and the charging handle gets stuck. I bought the more expensive ammo and no jams at all. I think in tnoutdoor9's case, he was using the more expensive ammo, which is still cheap.

  • @nofatman, 18 for a rifle 21 for a pistol
