@PlatoJaspers Indeed, it's incredibly impressive how well he's been able to absorb the classical tradition and create something beautiful of his own out of it. I was even more surprised when I discovered his fluency in the language of jazz as well, as revealed in (e.g.) his "Variationen über Light My Fire".

PS: Though one hears he's embedded in and indebted to composers like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. They are never far away. A 'real' composer brings something highly original to the the table too. It's a great pianist who is able to write lovely music from knowing the classical composers very well!

@naremconscendit Thanks for the information. Great music. I never knew Gulda was such a fine composer apart from being an outstanding pianist.

@PlatoJaspers Gulda himself wrote this. It's the third movement of his Suite for Piano, Electric Piano, and Drums.

Who's the composer?

MARAVILLOSAMENTE SUBLIME

... sometimes the small surprises exceed the impression of "important" masterpieces. 4,30 minutes of cheerful thoughts ...

there is an amazing version of this melodie in the form of a song: "nina carina". You can found it here in you tube, Plácido Domingo sings it wonderfully.

Love the very last note. That is true mastery, indeed.

This "Aria" is so wonderful - one of the best melodies I have every heard in my life. I like it so much! Thank you for this video, thank you Friedrich Gulda for composing this great piano-melody.
I find this "aria" so pleasant, serene and soothing that I keep listening to it over and over again. I am sure the "great" experts do not share my enthusiasm (it's a derivative they will probably say) but I still like it a lot.
