  • i have a express and i want to do this mod but my gun does not have the ball detent for the magazine detent

. Is their any way u can have a ball detent installed.

  • @droverish Yes. A gunsmith can drill a detent and spring hole, install Brownells part #’s 767-000-160 and 767-000-154, and stake the detent in place with 080-870-205

  • I used a round bastard to flatten the dimples in my 870 express. Works great, no problems.

  • Seems to me you need to keep the barrel ON the magazine tube so you don't end up expanding the tube but not crushing the detents (as I've heard others report). Unfortunately, this sounds like a mag extension is a non-starter, as you need either (1) the barrel clamp, or (2) a COMPETENT gunsmith to install a spring-and-ball detent.

  • lol get a file and shave it, not hard unless your incompetent

  • I have an older model of a Remington 870, the magazine spring retainer isn't the new fancy one and you can't press and turn to get it out. Also, it doesn't have the lugs on it that lock with the cap. Any idea on how to get this out?

  • I took my Remington 870 express to a local gunsmith and for $10 he removed the dents in the fashion described here. You have to find the right one, though. Most just wanted to drill out the dimples.

  • Why not just use a pair of sturdy pliers that fit inside the barrel and push out towards the inside of the tube to flatten the crimp?

  • I drilled my dents out, i did not think of pushing the dents out like this, i actually had a magazine jam once because there was metal raised from the edge of the drill holes into the tube, i gotta fix that somehow, but i still wouldn't have paid 75$ plus freight and import tax for something like that rod.

Also, there is almost no way there will come dirt into the magazine through these holes as they are under the barrel holding ring.

  • @silky19kilo Lol, for something you are going to use once..

I am actually thinking of getting on though.
