EMILYs List, the nations largest financial resource for women candidates, celebrated Judy Chus victory in the special election last night for Californias 32nd congressional district, marking the 80th pro-choice Democratic woman that the organization has helped elect to the U.S. House of Representatives since its inception.
From Nita Lowey and Jolene Unsoeld in 1988 to Judy Chu in 2009, EMILYs List has changed the dynamics for women in politics. It hasnt been easy bringing these women into office, but we have taken every opportunity to find good candidates, help them put their campaigns together, raise money, and mobilize women voters to go out and support them, said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILYs List. We know that women have the talent and the passion to make a difference, and in the House and the Senate right now our women are doing the work that will to move our country forward.
It is important to celebrate these milestones and marvel at how far weve come since 1988, when there were just 12 lonely Democratic women in the House, continued Malcolm. Our work is far from done. At 17 percent, women are still far from parity in the U.S. Congress, but every victory brings us one step closer.
that was then. ; - ) this 2010...year of conservative women and mama grizzles.

I am so proud of EMILY's List! Makes me want to live in the 32nd District again. Maybe EL can help recruit a candidate to run in CA-26...;)
