Author Diana Peterfreund chats about the myths and realities behind her YA fantasy series about killer unicorns and their hunters. Ascendant, the follow up to Rampant, is out in stories this September.
Now a full-fledged unicorn hunter, Astrid is struggling with how much her life has changed in such a short time. Determined to find the secret to the Remedy, she sets off to investigate Gordian Pharmaceuticals—but what she doesn't expect to find is her ex-boyfriend, Brandt, who is now working for Gordian. In the wake of renegade director Martin Jaeger's death, the company seems to be on the level, and Astrid finds a kindred scientific spirit in Isabeau Jaeger, Martin's widow and the new director of Gordian. But soon Astrid realizes that Gordian (and Brandt) are not what they seem—and the secret of the Remedy will profoundly affect hunters and unicorns alike.

I love Diana Peterfreund, I was amaze to say the least when I started reading this book, it was not what I expected it, it easily surpassed all my expectations and can't wait to read it's sequel. She doesn't mention her in here, but she also was inspired by Aravis Tarkheena one of my favorite characters of all times.
