Phil Mahre has an emotional flashback to when he received his Olympic Gold Medal in Sarejevo, Yugoslavia in 1984. With 107 participants, the U.S. only took home eight medals: four golds and four silvers. Phil Mahre took home a gold, and his brother Steve Mahre took home a silver. The Medalists were dominated by Russia (99 participants for 25 Medals, including Hockey) and East Germany (57 participants for 24 Medals) It was the first Winter games held in a Socialist country. At that time, Sarajevo was Beautiful, and Quaint and hospitable to all. Sarajevo is now in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and was largely destroyed in civil war with Serbia. Phil Mahre is shown here in Steamboat Colorado in 2006, where he was a pacesetter for the NASTAR National Race Competition.at Steamboat Colorado in March 2006. Phil is the winningest American ski racer in history. He announced in 2006 that he is considering racing again at the age of 50! Phil is a wonderful human being, who appreciates what he has received, and cares to encourage everyone to achieve their best. He gave a very real and emotional thanks to everyone who made his Gold medal possible. He thanks his fans and gives encouragement to the NASTAR National Racing competitors to follow the passion he shares with them for skiing. MUST SEE! I wonder if he is in Vancouver Right now for the 2010 Winter Olympics? Phil, are you there?
