this is just incredible, and still boggles my mind

what happen was, the customer did not cgange the brakes, and then about a month before this, he had us take it for a ride because the brakes were making noise. my dad didnt even get out of the parking lot, he could tell tyhe brakes were wasted. well 2 weeks go by, the customer comes in for exhaust work, my dad peeks through the rim and sees the "cliff" where the rortor was worn and where the thickness should have been.
very lucky the brakes were not lost.

the rotor was not machined this thin, the pads got worn down to the metal backing, then started to wear down the rotor. very rarely does this happen
this will be hung on the wall in our shop. in all my dads years as a mechanic (30!) he has never seen a rotor this bad.

  • @1PossumJenkins haha your to funny

  • HAH! I've seen that before! I've also seen brake rotors with cooling fins in the middle snap/break cleanly off into two separate pieces leaving one rotor and one disc. What's amazing is how lucky some stupid/ignorant people can get.

  • that IS a thin one! I once had a 1 ton ford 4x4 come into the shop complaining of all kinds of brake noises. My boss drove it into the shop and as he came between the lift posts (was a two post lift) the brakes gave out and he rammed his own toolbox! I took the front wheels off to find that both rotors were completely worn away and only the inner cooling fins were left. The caliper pistons had come out and it lost all the fluid in the front section.

  • Heh, pull much when you apply brakes?

  • Heh, pull much when you apply breaks?

  • talk about cheap bastards

  • maybe the owner likes to drive with the handbrake on.

  • Don't worry that loud noise doesn't mean anything! the shop guys can just do that thing my husband called turning I believe and everything is gonna be alright? Right? *sarcasm*
