I wrote this song for World Lupus Day, May 10
My friend Jules has Lupus. She's hosting a virtual museum of art work created for World Lupus Day, to raise awareness of the disease. Check out: http://lupus.juliasherred.com/
Lucy in the Sky with Butterflies
by Russ Rogers (dedicated to the memory of Lucy Vodden)
Imagine yourself in a room with no windows
A room with no exit, no view and no door
Picture yourself in a war with your body
Fighting a disorder that hasn't a cure
Lucy in the Sky with Diamond Eyes and Butterflies
Lucy falling down again
Lucy in the Breeze with Chickadees and Bumblebees
Lucy on her knees in pain
Oh Lucy ...
Oh, Lucy ...
Follow my thinking, it's not psychedelic
When I say there's a thousand knives stabbing your joints
It takes the courage of angels to walk down this hallway
If you think that's romantic, you're missing the point
Lucy in the Sky with Butterflies and Diamond Eyes
Lucy falling down again
Lucy in the Breeze with Chickadees and Bumblebees
Lucy on her knees in pain
Oh, Lucy ...
Oh, Lucy
As someone who lives with Lupus every day, this song made me cry because it felt someone finally understood how it feels to have Lupus. Jules has a really amazing friend in you! Thank you for this song, hun :)

@HopeBetweenTheDreams Thanks for the vote of confidence. Any insight that I have on what it might be like to have lupus I gained from Jules. Some of the lines in this song weren patterned after things I've read from Jules. If the song has any feeling of "authenticity," it's thanks to her. I'm hoping to rerecord the song for World Lupus Day this year. Add more instruments. Try not to sound so nasal.

Great song Russ. I've really seen your tunes develop a lot since we started talking.

@MikeLombardoMusic Thanks, Mike. I've been writing songs for 30 years now. And I'm still very hit and miss. But it's easier to write a new song after I've written a few, so this last year of Song Fu and TMA has helped prime the pump. I was worried that this song was too much of a song parody. Actually, I still worry about that, because although this song was directly inspired by Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I wanted it to stand on it's own as well. Anyway, thanks for the compliment.
