An active biomedical researcher, I use computational approaches to generate sounds, images, and three-dimensional virtual spaces.
In October 2009 I completed dissertation work in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. My dissertation project was to develop and evaluate a search and visualization system called Sciologer. Sciologer is designed to help researchers understand who's doing what, who's working with whom, and which institutions are most active in various areas of research.
The current version of Sciologer generates two-dimensional output. My colleagues and I have experimented with a three-dimensional version which is not yet available for use. Generated Realita is a video of an early prototype of this three-dimensional output. The words and phrases appearing in the video are from the scientific abstracts of recent scholarly articles on autism. The audio is a digitally-altered version of an original composition entitled Boomerang, featuring neuroscientist Avishek Adhikari on guitar and myself on violin and vocals.
