Here's a steam engine model a friend of mine made with some scrap oak, plumbing parts and a clothes hanger for $1.35

  • what did you use for the piston?

  • The piston is made from two #14 bonded sealing washers with the rubber side facing each other with a 7/8" O ring sized for a semi tight fit.

  • The base and flywheel are ¾" oak hardwood, the crank and connecting rod is made from a straightened clothes hanger, the cylinder is a ¾" pvc coupler drilled out to get rid of the rib and taper inside. The piston has a machine bolt run the two #14 bonded sealing washers. See comment posted below with SthealthRaider on construction of piston. The valve and cylinder head are 3/16" clear Lexan. The piston and cylinder are fitted so that there is low friction. Thanks
