A song by Stephen Foster
Lew Dite with his standard strumstick

note: the = sign means slide

0-1=2---4----4-5-4--2---0---0-1=2-2--1--0--1
I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee
0--1=2----4--4----5-4-2-0--0--1=2--2---1--1--0
I'm going to Louisianna, my true love for to see
0-1=2-----4---4----5----4--2--0---0--1=2--2----1--0--1
It rained all night the day I left, the weather it was dry
0--1=2----4---4-5---4---2----0----0--1=2--2----1---1----0
The sun so hot I froze to death, Susanna don't you cry.
3---3----5---5---5---4----4----2---0---1
Oh susanna, oh don't you cry for me
0--1=2---4---4--5--4--2--0--0-1=2-2--1---1---0
I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee.

  • WOW!! That was so cool. Lew, you play so many unusual instruments. Do you play the oud? Maybe record a piece on an oud and post it on YouTube for us.

    Cheers!

  • I do not play the oud (wish I did) but I have a youtube friend who does. He lives in Tuscany, Italy (he is from Connecticut.)

    youtube search: billkilpatrick oud

  • I have never seen a strumstick before it looks great and sounds even better. The frets seems oddly spaced out, some wide some not so wide.

Very interesting and well sung and played.

  • I just saw your post and I want to say thank you for all the songs you posted on youtube. These are songs I haven't heard in a long time and I love those songs until this day.

  • Brilliant and educational.

I think some of the old scottish folk songs will be great on the strumsstick.

    Take care

    david

  • You come from Montreal with a strumstick on your knee, and I'm really enjoying your music!

  • How to make something look easy.... you make the Strumstick sound so good! Hope the finger is improving, it doesn't appear to hinder you in the slightest. Thank you.

  • WOW!!!
