Today's persistent cyber threats represent the most serious risk to our national security since the onset of the nuclear age 60 years ago. Where the cyber threat is often intensified in terms of war fighting, there is serious destruction and economic damage occurring daily within the private sector. Not only can it harm the viability of an individual company and result in significant financial loss, it directly affects US global competitiveness and can seriously damage or destroy critical public services and operations. While many agree that this threat is real, we continue to lack a unified and comprehensive cyber security doctrine that would maintain security without sacrificing economic opportunity, growth and efficiency. Michael Chertoff will discuss the different cyber risks we face, and the need to clearly identify roles and responsibilities for both the government and private sector to create a safer environment for all.

This program is co-sponsored by the Business Executives for National Security.

Recorded on December 8, 2011, Thursday, 6 pm at the Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel, San Francisco
