This is friggin awesome.. One of the many ways we could get rid of this gasoline thing. Other ways to do it is use of the solucar reflective steam generator tower, that would be for our basic electricity.

I want to hear more about this. I wish people were talking about it. There's no one solution!

The best thing to do is to get off of fossil fuels and use wind and nuclear.

to chairde, you can't run an airplane, a semi-truck, a train, or a boat on wind or nuclear. this is a total solution for transportation related fuel use, not electricity for homes etc... GO ALGAE!

Natural gas can run trucks also. In any case the solution is multiple fuels and the removal of oil from the equation.

chairde, there is nothing inherently wrong with burning oil. Just because it has been done improperly doesn't mean we should all throw the baby out w/ the bathwater. People are so quick to give up on things because of improper past efforts. There is such a thing as refined methods yielding positive results. If we discarded every poorly-implemented technology, we'd get nowhere. Again, oil is beneficial in many applications. What we need is CO2 neutral oil apps - algal oil being 1 example.

CNG can be used on trucks and buses and it is clean. Airplanes don't compare the the amount of damage that cars can do. I wouldn't be against your suggestion when it comes to airplanes.

Based on current research, it appears that the real concern would be condition # 1: Capability for sustainable production high-oil-yielding algae strains on a large-scale. While the other two conditions need to be addressed as well, those two are primarily engineering considerations over which they have more control than over condition #1.

and that's exactly what you hear in this video that they are focusing their R&D on.

1.Ability to sustainably produce high-oil-yielding algae strains on a large-scale

2. Ability to extract the oil from the algae on a large scale

3. Capability for large-scale conversion of algal oil into biodiesel
