In Europe it's not taboo, probably because knowing European history (not just American revisionist history), you know that "linking" any political ideology to Marxism or Socialism is useless because Marx is the Kevin Bacon of political groups(look up '6 degrees of Kevin Bacon'). Even Libertarians that claim to be the opposite of Communists are an offshoot of Libertarian Socialism.

However, calling yourself a Marxist or Communist is just as meaningless.

You misinterpret why I posted what I did.

Fringe Conservatives in America (like Beck) enjoy arousing hatred (and sometimes violence) by linking groups they oppose to Socialism to further their own ideas. I respond to this immature and reckless game by pointing out that their ideas are not only linked to Socialism, but are, in fact, a branch of Trotskyism. The sooner they all realize this, the sooner they'll be the ones that will want to stop playing this annoying game.
