When an earthquake destroyed Christchurch in February the CTV building was reduced to rubble in seconds, killing hundreds. This report assesses disturbing allegations that the building was fatally flawed.

As the months pass and the Royal Commission probes the devastation, the widespread heartbreak that settled on Christchurch is turning to outrage. "I want someone's arse busted over this and held accountable", says widower Geoff Brien. Why did one building, erected just a few decades ago, collapse in just 12 seconds and claim so many lives? This compelling investigation uncovers evidence that the building was an earthquake disaster waiting to happen. "Nobody needed to die in the CTV building. It should not have collapsed the way it did", says Barry Davidson, a structural engineer. The building owners claim that proper checks were carried out prior to the quake, but accessing the results of the checks proves impossible."I think there's something being covered up here."

  • It's sad that the earthquake in New Zealand has been forgotten by the international community. We hear something, then care....something new happens, we forget about the previous thing and focus on what's happening currently. I think, in the future such earthquakes in NZ will be more common...

  • @TickleMehNancy no not really, I like my 100/10 Mbits connection in Europe. Altho I do think it's a nice retirement destination.

  • This is my home town. And the trauma of that day will live with me forever. But Christchurch is still here, and the people are still here. Our heart is hurting, but we shall rise above this tragedy. I'm still in Christchurch and will remain here.

  • @TheShadowParliament

No, we in America haven't forgotten about these huge earthquakes that have hit New Zealand. It is scary and sad and it can happen anywhere. My prayers go out to the people of New Zealand.

  • Building codes in NZ do not suck, what country in the world builds for ground acceleration of 2.2G like what happened in the Feb Earthquake.

I am STUNNED there were any buildings left standing in the CBD, I was there. Thank god NZ has stronger building codes than most developed countries, it saved lives that day.

  • you read too much into the sheit .

  • Oh well if you had mentionned Haiti's most desastrous earthaquake or even Japan's I would have empathized.we just follow the current news cycle. NZ earthquake is yesterday's story just like Japan and Haiti's earthquake.

  • Why do New Zealand CTV and Canada CTV both even use the same colours in their logos, if not to remind us that we're all human? Or is it reminding us it is easier to steal an idea than think of one? Either way, best of luck, Christchurchers!

  • @KaraStyler Just so you know, earthquakes are also in no way caused by people or their infrastructure. The earth would shake just as hard for just the same reasons if nobody lived or built here. The destruction of human constructions is only a side effect, not a purpose.

  • Ok. I guess God doesnt like Haiti or Japan either? I am a christian and that crap below is not what I believe. God is Good all the time and is not sending quakes to in any way kill his children. Thats stupid! Airborn Rogue stop making all christian look like donkeys ass! Come on, this is the way the earth gets rid of what is destroying it, not God!

  • @TheAirborneRogue 1Sa 2:6 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. Pro 16:4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.( day of destruction )

  • @TheAirborneRogue oh shut up , you havent a clue of what yoru talking about. youre puling arbitrary scriptures out of no where that prove nothing. GOD sent the quake to kill australians in his wrath. They are dead- dead- dead and no amout of inane jabber on your part will bring them back or bring them one drop of water in hell to cool their tongue.
