2010-2011 Winter Outlook

This 2010-2011 will be different in weather watching wise. I'm going to start off talking about the NAO. As of right now the NAO is
-2. We are about 2-3 degrees below average for this time of year. It is early July, but it fills like early September. I think the NAO is going to go back positive by mid/late July. Then the temps will go back to normal maybe slightly above normal. Then I believe the NAO is going to take a steep dive going back to negative by late September. The NAO is very important to look at when forecasting for the winter season. If the NAO stays negative for awhile we could have another El Nino. Last winter we had a weak El Nino with above average snowfall. Next thing to look forward to is the storm track for this winter year. So far the storm track will be more south and west of Georgia. I think this will change by October. What I believe the storm track will be about the same as last winter maybe a slight off track to the south and the west and maybe more toward the north and west. However, this winter season I think we will see above avg. snowfall and below avg. temps.

PLEASE NOTE: This description is for the southeast states only, but this video talks about the entire USA.

  • I've noticed that each winter here in Oregon has been getting colder. Not by a lot, but I've been noticing. A white Christmas sounds nice, but I have an ominous feeling lately. Did the oil spill really mess up the gulf current, or is that all just a bunch of hooey?

  • @whiteclaudia9 I think that oil spill did mess up the current. Only for the NE part of the GOM.

  • Tell me about Europe please!

  • @iDenmark I'm sorry, I do not do other county weather. I can not keep up with the hole entire world weather.

  • Last year was a snow jackpot here in Central Virginia but with La Nina I am expecting almost none this year.

  • @WJJ1968 are you kidding me? Virginia will get snow. may not be much as last years, but you will get snow.

Me, I have been ready for snow and i got a feeling Maryland will have decent winter.

  • I HATE THE COLD ND THE SNOW!!!

  • you think baltimore maryland will get tons snow

  • @TreyOConner - A local met educated me on the difference between a moderate and a strong La Nina as I was associating La Nina with snow droughts of the past (here in Richmond where we are usually on 'the line' anyway) so I stand corrected. Thanks for the feedback.
