A little project I just finished which uses an Arduino to control my squeezebox using RFID tags hidden in some photo coasters.

  • Yep, certainly could be cheaper, though it isn't really the Arduino that makes it expensive but rather the RFID module. If you had a cheaper solution for that you'd save yourself half the cost.

  • OMG. Awesome idea! I feel a hack-a-day link coming on.

  • Thanks, if there's interest I can publish an instructable for how I did it. Had a few struggles getting it all working, but now that the bugs are worked it it would be really easy to reproduce.

  • Wow, awesome usability.

  • @nicpottier did you ever post a how to for this mod? what streamer unit is that, which you used ??

  • @nicpottier I know it's been a while, but it would be really cool if you posted a tutorial or instructable on how you made it, unless it has already been done?

  • It's cool, but you can't produce it using Arduinos... cost is too high.

Now re-implement that on a PIC18 + ENJ28J60 + PCB antenna and it will all cost you maybe less than 50 USD in small quantitys.

  • nicpottier - that would be nice, if you can publish that :) I WANT ONE OF THOSE

  • Damnnn that's cool. haha Very cool video. You should most definitely make more in the future. haha This is too interesting!

  • RFID is bad.............

  • You make my Simon game look like... well... a toy. Very nice work. This screams industrial design, even though there really wasn't much "designing" to it (apart from the use of the coasters which is pretty ingenious). I could see this being part of a high end, sleek stereo that yuppies would eat up. Excellent job.
