I have to add the complexity of the writing from book to book is beyond what Joseph Smith was capable of writing with the leck of education he had. Several writing experts have confirmed the writing style varies as well. The one thing the anti's can't explain and won't address is how Joseph Smith was able to put it together in such a short time. Those of us who know know how he did it :)

I did translate the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God, and it is before the world, and all the powers of earth and hell can never rob me of the honour of it. JOSEPH SMITH

We have thses videos and they are great. We've shared them with the Elders and friends to help give the Book of Mormon some physical dimension. These videos have helped the Book of Mormon make more sence to me as I understand more of where and why. :D

Are we forgetting the obvious parallel in the 19th century? The Divine Right of Kings? Does this prove that the Book of Mormon was a fictional product of the rebellion and early American sentiments? No? Then how can you claim that it is a factual product of an ancient culture by the same method? This parallel works either way, this constitutes an ambiguity, not an evidence.

@dougefish Do you mind if we move this to email? It is getting a bit crowded in here, and I'm having trouble finding new posts. Also, the limit of characters we are allowed to post is a bit annoying.

@dougefish I do not doubt that there were Lamanites in that region, but also do not think the Church should stand or fall on the location of BOM peoples. Joseph Smith also stated that BOM events happened outside of the Great Lakes area, in Central America, and elsewhere. No one can claim that Joseph Smith exclusively taught their idea of BOM locations.

@dougefish I am not sure I follow you. Are you saying that geneticists are ignoring DNA? If that is so, I am not sure where you are getting that information and would be curious to know. My point was that there are at least 3 different fields of science which all say the same thing. If two fields say one thing, and the other is 20,000 years off, there may be something wrong. But, individually, they all came up with similar dates.
-
@dougefishI hope you understand that I am not trying to argue. You, along with every other LDS can believe what they want when it comes to BOM geography. It could very well have happened in North America, Central America or Chile, for all I care.
-
@dougefishority. There are only a few who believe that, and that is usually Christians who are trying to date it within Biblical times. The school of thought of mutation rates do vary, but not enough to place it within BOM times. It should be noted that it is not just DNA that places these migrations in the Americas long ago. Archaeology and carbon dating also compliment the genetic clock.

@dougefish The X haplogroup did originate in the Middle East, but long before Book of Mormon times. The X2a, the type found in the Americas is unique to the Americas and is found nowhere else in the world. Currently, the thought is that it crossed the Bering Strait along with the other haplogroups, and followed the ice free corridors down to the Great Lakes areas. Ugo Perego is probably the best expert on the X haplogroup in the Americas, and is far from connecting it to The Book of Mormon.
You have at least 15 spelling and grammar errors in this post. This post is 41 words long. At this rate if you had 3000 errors, your book would be 8333 words long. which is about 32 pages. The Book of Mormon has about 531 pages.
No person living in the last few centuries could have written this book given the circumstances. Read the book. Pray to God. Ask if the book is true. Follow its teachings if it is true. Seek the truth elsewhere if it is false.

Oliver Cowdery, Witness to the Book of Mormon
I wrote with my own pen . . . as [Joseph] translated [the Book of Mormon] by the gift and power of God, by means of the Urim and Thummim, or, as it is called by the book, "holy interpreters." I beheld with my eyes, and handled with my hands, the gold plates from which it was translated. I also saw with my eyes and handled with my hands the "holy interpreters." The book is true. . . . It contains principles of salvation.
