  • I really like these old classic matches when Pro Wrestling had a more "Realistic" Feel!

  • Wow! Buddy finally met someone who cheated as much as he did! LOL! What an intelligent finish 2 a intelligent match, Schmidt beats the crap out of Rogers the whole match, but makes a crucial mistake that Buddy capitalizes on, ring psychology (which is missing 2day) at it's very best!

  • @HemiVic much of what goes on is real watch some ROH AND ECW EVEN SOME VADER MATCHES!

  • He puts the figure for on a lot faster than Flair.

  • @HemiVic Schmidt worked really stiff and the contact is very real the winner is usually planned though!

  • Buddy Rogers was the NWA World's Heavyweight Champion for all of 1962.

  • I rented a book that goes over history of wrestling and the legends of the time. The book was printed in 1979... just a few years before Hulkamania. I'd love to the find the author and have a discussion with them about today's product and how he feels about how much it's changed between the short period of the 1980's to today.

  • i heard hans schmidt was stiff as a board his kicks were really hard!

  • so what ever happened to Hans Mortier? I asked Nikolai Volkoff this question at the NYC Comic Book Convention and he said "Before my time". Mortier was around duiring the days of Sailor Art Thomas, Bobo Brazil, and Eduardo Carpentier. Either an Ausrrian or German stronman with an Arnold Schwarzenegger back, rippling muscles, though somewhat ponderous. The match of the century would have been Hans vs Sailor Art Thomas. Never saw it. Those were the days that seeing Buddy Rogers brings back.

  • Hans Schmidt no match for the original nature boy. Remember when Cowboy Bob Ellis created the reverse figure four? Best match for years was Ellis and Johnny Valentine against Rogers and Johnny Barend--two bulldog headlocks-- Rogers was at his best when opponents assumed he was down and out--like Hans Schmidt. His gravel voice, cocky strut, super tan and hair supremo made him the greatest villian of all time--the man fans loved to hate!

  • Great match. Hans was a great guy and a blast to work with. In St Louis he used to tease me in the dressing room about my long hair and I would tease him about his bald head. Great memories.

  • Buddy Rogers was such a great wrestler. The way that this match played out was great, with Rogers capitalizing on a mistake, and winning with the figure-four, the move he created!
