The evolution of storage media is important to desk research: paper, photographic and magnetic archives are being replaced by digital media. We have seen a significant change in how materials are being stored, located, retrieved and used. In the 1990s, the World Wide Web became an integral part of our lives and offered services to millions of users. Mistakes of the past mean that many records are now kept and raw data sets have been made available for manipulation via the web. Freedom of Information laws have led to even more data becoming available. Aggregators, delivering material from many sources, have become important. We are moving towards an age where more data is stored with little or no filing. Electronic searching and data capture makes sense of this and delivers the relevant information to the user. http://www.oxfordtextbooks.co.uk/orc/bradley2e
