Of course you can buy Final Cut Express for about US$200. I recently bought an older unregistered version of FCE from an Apple Store employee for less than $100. I'm still kicking the tires but it is far more capable than iMovie.

Even I'm not from Europe, I agree on what you said. If only I have a choice of place to be born in, I'd choose Europe or Australia, I like their culture, especially their being secular.

I just did it ;) after realizing making my last 10min-vlog, that I had no video-effects on it, whatsoever!!! I couldn't even turn it into black and white!
It's really time I get back to the serious stuff... but do I actually need Final Cut Pro?
