  • 'I don't think it was in that key, it was in F wasn't it?' *transposes immediately* Amazing.

  • That piano is so cool! Hardly ever see wooden grands now, they're all painted black.

I'm so glad I'm subscribed to this channel, you upload some great stuff! Thanks for this!

  • Any aspiring musician should listen to this man. The cleverest man in music!

  • R.I.P. Billy Taylor, and as WKCR brilliantly said "our jazz universe has just become exponentially smaller with the passing of Billy Taylor."

His memorial is being held in at Riverside Church in Harlem, NYC. Hope he continues to play those ivories and ebonies wherever he might be.

This song is "Georgia On My Mind" Quite a popular old tune, written by Hoagy Carmichael in 1930. Ray Charles also recorded it in 1960 and there are many many versions of it recorded by many many artists. The way Billy Taylor played it here, it could be hard to tell except for a couple of phrases from the song. Most of it is improvisation as the actual tune of the song disappears completely. Very nice job. I like it.

  • I just stumbled into this great stuff - I would say beyond awesome. Dr Billy Taylor is a treasure, a wonderful gift from above. Dr Taylor said one pianist played this, however, he did not mention the name of the pianist.. Does anybody know the pianist and whether the tune was recorded? I would love to purchase the CD if available. Thanks to Dr. Taylor for choosing this beautiful peace of work for illustration - great teacher you are..

  • love em' (billy taylor of course)

  • Wonderful teacher and GREAT JAZZ MUSICIAN!
