B.B. Kings L.A. Open Mike
Short Story by
Eloy Escagedo
I played live here and there when I was out in L.A. . This one time, I played B.B. Kings and this one guitarist would not let me take a lead. So I took the lead anyhow and ended up with a little guitar battle.
The really good musicians know that they are part of an ensemble and will actually respond in some way to each other. Just watch what happens when Carlos Santana gets on stage with someone he does not normally work with. Pretty clear that your attitude wasn't the problem.

Thats Cool Eloy!!! I Had a similar expierence in NYC back in the early 70s in Manhatten..it was a Talent type show sponsored by Electro harominex..it wasnt a set band though we all signed up and they put a band together from that.. 2 guitars a Bass, drums and a Harp Player/singer...we did 2 Blues progressiions and this other guitar player tried to hog the spotlight with his fuzz box which was ALL NOISE!!..But the Jam was cool I took second Place...some black cat beat me out...he was Good!!

Hi Eloy. My daughter was in a jam night performance, where the 'mixer' decided she was to be 'left out'. Phil Emmanuel was on stage & handed his red strat (set on volume 11) to my daughter. She annihilated the 'opposition'.Your photos & story are of great interest to me. Well done in 2000. All the best, Greg.P.S She might have thought you were better lookin',but I think your 'interpretation' is correct.
