My goal is to buy and beat every game in the Zelda series. This was the first game I bought, and it ROCKED every second. The creepy feelings, the awesome feelings, the looks, the triumphant cutscenes, even the menu was great. It's going to feel odd playing the original, but even then, this game was the best game I have ever played. If you haven't bought this yet, go for it.

@9kenny5 Glad I could help. Fun fact is, I came across this game by mistake myself when I was a kid, and I wouldn't have brought it but when I asked the clerk if he had the game I was looking for, he said no, but handed me OoT instead saying it was a better game. Boy, do I owe that guy!

@9kenny5 Believe me, Zelda is incredible for newcomers. No matter what game was your first, each game plays fresh off, and doesn't require any prior knowledge of the franchise.
There may be a few references here and there, but 12 years ago I picked this game up, it was one of my first games, and my first Zelda game, and I loved it. I understood the story and was immediately hooked. You should definitely buy this, it's still one of my favourites 12 years on.

Will I understand the story if I get this? I haven't played a single zelda game except for that wolf one on wii.

It has aged well. Most games after 14 years would lose half their score.
